Cast Expectations and Helpful Hints
Welcome to the cast of West Side Story. This is going to be a great experience not only for you, but for the audience as well. These are just a couple of tips to help get everyone on the same page.
1. Be actively engaged in each rehearsal.
Rehearsal time is limited so it is very important that everyone arrives on time and come ready to work. Bring all your materials and always be aware of what is happening within the rehearsal room. We may try to get through multiple scenes at one rehearsal. Stay close to the rehearsal room so that we can move seamlessly from scene to scene. Valuable time is wasted if we have to track you down for a scene.
2. Respect the work.
Please be very aware of people working while in rehearsal. Keep it quiet and focused in the rehearsal room at all time.
3. Work done outside of rehearsal is just as important as work done during rehearsal. Make sure you are allowing time to work on lines, blocking, and choreography outside of rehearsal. A couple of 15 minute time slots everyday will go a long way.
4. Double casting is a great opportunity to see the show in a new way.
Know that many notes directors give will apply to both cast members regardless of who is currently working in the scene. The show looks very different from the house, so by watching your character onstage you will develop a great sense of what to do onstage.
5. Ask questions!
The directors are here to help make this production as good as it can be while also making you feel confident in your performance. Never hesitate to ask questions. We can't read minds so please let us know what you need help with.

This will save us making more and more copies, and it will give you easy access ahead of rehearsals. We will have copies for use during the rehearsal process.
